Biography
Katharine Cameron’s musical career started at the ripe old age of seven, when she played Gretel alongside Julie Anthony’s Maria in The Sound Of Music at Sydney’s Regent Theatre. From that time on, Katharine’s love for singing was found, and her musical ability began to shine at school where, at fifteen, she began training as a vocalist with renown Sydney singing teacher Patricia Oertel.
A lyric soprano with a dramatic flair, Katharine began to branch out musically, finding a passion and talent for a variety of vocal styles. Her light, melodic voice is able to express the works of such esteemed composers as Handel and Mozart with ease, as well as bringing soul and expression to the gorgeous standard repertoire of such performers as Dinah Shore and Ella Fitzgerald. During her teens and into her twenties as her talents developed, she appeared as a soloist at Sydney Town Hall, St Mary’s Cathedral and The Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, as well as performing in several Eisteddfods, including Sydney Eisteddfod, to critical acclaim.
Whilst studying at university full time, Katharine continued her vocal training and achieved an AMusA qualification in Singing. She also found time to perform Christmas Carols and operatic arias and vocals at several prestigious corporate events, including singing at the beautiful Fort Denison on Sydney Harbour. She also performed regularly at weddings and special events.
After relocating to the Mid North Coast of NSW, Katharine began studying to fulfill her second dream: infants teaching. Her love of singing, however, has kept alive her passion to perform and entertain. To that end she became the Bowraville Theatre Singers Assistant Choir Master, and performed solo Christmas Carols at several Carols by Candleight events. Katharine also performed as a soloist at a choir concert attended by star Australian pianist Simon Tedeschi, as well as performing as a soloist with the North Coast Camerata in their acclaimed performance of the Mass in B Minor by Bach.
Now residing in Hanoi, Vietnam as a Grade 1 teacher at a reknown International School, Katharine has continued to keep her passion for music alive and well. She recently appeared as Mrs Johnstone in the Hanoi International Theatre Society's production of "Blood Brothers", and has become a regular member of the hip band "Dhoopstick", performing around Hanoi at a range of professional and fundraising events.
One of Katharine's greatest loves is found in entertaining a live audience with her art. She is a big believer in bringing new forms of music into the lives of those who have never experienced their beauty and power, particularly children, and to that end always incorporates music into her teaching whenever she can.
Future plans include recording a solo album, and branching out into songwriting and instrumental performance.
